That's your opinion Here's Mine

Church & State

Church & State is playing at the New World Stages located at 340 West 50th Street. It runs one hour thirty five minutes with no intermission. The play closes on July 3, 2017.

The setting is Raleigh, North Carolina; the place is a green room in N.C. State and later in a green room inside the PNC Arena on Election Night.

Senator Charles Whitmore (Rob Nagle) is running for re-election and it is three nights left until the election. He is upset about an incident that happened the week before.

His wife Sara (Nadia Bowers) and Alex (Christa Scott-Reed) his campaign manager are in the room with him.

Charles tells Alex he may have a problem. He had been attending a funeral when he was approached by a person (Johnathan Louis Dent) about how he feels about what has happen. The week before, several children were murdered at a school in the city. One of the children killed was a friend of his children. He had just attended the funeral. Charles tells her may have said he didn’t believe in God and other things along that line. Sara goes ballistic, as she is religious. She is afraid if it gets out he will lose the election. Something appears on Twitter. Alex tells him she will give a prepared speech on what happened. Charles says, no he will make his own speech.

On election night he is 71 percent ahead. Sara and Alex are in there glory. Sara is drunk. Both women realize the like each other. Senator Charles goes out to make his acceptance speech.

Things happen which I will not tell you but all I can say is this is one powerful, moving play.

At the end we hear the speech he made three days earlier that got him elected.

Rob Nagle is compassionate in his character and does a remarkable performance.

Nadia Bowers is awesome in her role.

This is one off Broadway show you have to see. It will blow you away.
