An Evening With Patti Lupone & Mandy Patinkin

At the Barrymore Theatre located at 243 West 47th St. The final performance is on January 13, 2012. The show runs for 2 hours.

Accompanied on piano by Paul Ford and John Beal on bass.

The pair first appeared together in "Evita" in 1979.

Patti won her first Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical for "Evita". Her second Tony Award was in 2008 for "Gypsy". She appeared in 2011 production of "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown". She was nominated for a Tony and Drams Desk Award for Best Feature actress for that role.

Mandy won a Tony Award for "Evita" and an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for "Chicago Hope". He was last seen off Broadway at the Public Theatre in "Compulsion" in 2011.

Mandy directed this show.

Ann Reinking was the dance consultant. In 1997 she won a Tony, Drama Desk and Critics Circle Awards for her choreography for the Broadway revival of "Chicago".

The stage almost bare, the piano & bass players are to the left. To the right is two chairs and a table with glasses of water. There are lights on poles in different sizes and colors around the stage. The wall in the back changes colors , some times a moon appears on the right side.

Patti and Mandy performances are solid. They performed songs from such shows as "South Pacific", "Showboat", "Carousel" and "Merrily We Roll Along".

Each song blends into the next. There are duets and solo performances done by each one. In "Getting Married Today" from "Carousel" Patti was able to sing parts of the song so fast and so clear it was amazing. She spits water out and throws a napkin to the person that got the water on them, to dry themselves.

Mandy was outstanding when he did the number from "Follies" called "The God-Why-Don't-You-Love-Me Blues".

In "April In Fairbanks" from "New Faces of 1956" they used office chairs with wheels to help them get around on stage and dance. It was a cleaver arrangement.

Both sang a song from "Evita". Mandy sang "Oh What a Circus" and Patti sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". If you didn't see them in the original "Evita" you could understand why they both won Tony Awards. "WOW"

Near the end of the show Mandy sang "White Christmas" in Yiddish. He said this is how Irvin Berlin meant the song to be sung. Bing Crosby f--k it up.

You have three weeks left to see this enjoyable show. It's not your typical show. Hey it's nice to have a change once in a while and here it is.
