Tuck Everlasting

Tuck Everlasting is playing at the Broadhurst Theatre located 235 West 44th Street. It runs two hours and fifteen minutes with one intermission. The musical is open ended.

It is an American children’s novel written by Natalie Babbitt in 1975. The book was adapted into two feature films in 1981 and 2002.

Casey Nicholaw is the director. He has been nominated for six Tony Awards for Something Rotten (2015) and The Drowsy Chaperone (2006) both for directing and choreographer. Casey was nominated for two Tony Awards for choreographer, The Book of Mormon (2011) and Monty Python’s Spamalot (2005). He won a Tony Award with Trey Parker for directing The Book of Mormon (2011).

Gregg Barnes is the costume designer. He has won two Tony Awards for Follies (revival 2011) and The Drowsy Chaperone (2006). Gregg was nominated for four Tony Awards for Something Rotten (2015), Kinky Boots (2013), Legally Blonde (203) and Flower Drum Song (2002).

Carolee Carmello was nominated for two Tony Award and Drama Desk Awards for Scandalous (2013) and Lestat (2006). She was nominated for a Tony Award and won a Drama Desk Award for Parade (1999).

Terrance Mann was nominated for two Tony Awards for Beauty and the Beast (1994) and Les Miserables (1987).

Michael Park is known for the role of Jack Snyder on As the World Turns (1997-2010). He won two Daytime Emmy Awards in 2010 and 2011.

The Tuck family stops to drink water at a pond. Angus (Michael Park) his wife Mae (Carolee Carmello) and their sons Jesse (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) and Miles (Robert L enzi) raise their glasses to the Tuck family.

We are now in their home in the woods. Mae is trying to wake her husband up. She wants to surprise her two sons and meet them. They haven’t seen them in ten years. Mae wants to know if he wants to join her. He declines.

Jesse comes across Winnie (Sarah Charles Lewis) in the woods. She has run away from home. Her father passed almost a year ago. Her mother (Valerie Wright) won’t let her go to the carnival that is in town. Nana (Pippa Pearthree) says it’s okay. Her only friend is the frog she talks to outside her house.

Jesse is seventeen and Winnie is ten. Jessie tells his parents he has told Winnie their secret. The meet her and kidnap her. They take Winnie back to their house in the woods. Jessie and Winnie sneak out of the house. They go to the carnival together. “Where the Man in the Yellow Suit” (Terrance Mann) discovers Jesse secret. All hell breaks loose.

Winnie goes back with Jesse to his parent’s home. Mae is afraid of what will happen when the town finds out their secret.

Her mother is afraid something has happened to her. Constable Joe (Fred Applegate) and his helper Hugo (Michel Wartella) are trying to find Winnie.

I’m not telling you anymore, you can’t get me to give away their secret. It would spoil this delightful show. This is a musical no matter what your age, you will enjoy it.

The set is great, especially the frog! No he doesn’t turn into a Prince.

The cast is remarkable. Terrence Mann is so slimy he makes your skin crawl that’s how good he was. Carolee Carmellow does an impressive job. Michael Wartella as the young detective was exceptional.
