Forever Dusty
Is playing at the New World Stages located at 340 West 50th street. It runs one hour thirty minutes with no intermission. The show is an open ended run and is booking until February 12, 2013.
This is the New York premiere of this bio-musical of Dusty Springfield.
Her real name was Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette Springfield. She was born on April 10, 1939 in West London to Irish Catholic family. Dusty died on March 2, 1999 (59) of breast cancer.
The show was written and stars Kirsten Holly Smith.
Forever Dusty is about her life using her songs to tell the story.
She played in a group with her brother Tom (Sean Patrick Hopkins) called The Springfield’s. When she went on her own her brother said he would never speak to her again.
The musical tastefully covers her career, sexuality, drug and alcoholic additions.
There is a band on the left side of the stage. The stage has a table and chair at times, sometimes a mike. A picture will appear on the back of the stage to let you know where the scene is, such as a recording studio.
Kirsten Holly Smith captures the essence of Dusty in her mannerisms and voice. She brings her to life in a positive and upbeat way. Ms. Smith is remarkable in this role.
Among the roles Christina Sajous plays in the show is Dusty’s lover Claire. Whenever she sings it will take your breath away. She is fantastic as both a singer an actress.
This is a show worth seeing. Even if this is your parent’s generation of music you might be surprised and like it. If you a baby boomer you will enjoy it even more.
