All The Ways To Say I Love You

All The Ways to Say I Love You is playing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre located at 121 Christopher Street. It runs one hour with no intermission. The show closes on October 23, 2016.

Judith Light won a Tony Award for The Assembled Pieces (2013) and Other Desert Cities (2012). She was nominated for a Tony Award for Lombardi (2011). She received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Transparent (2016) and Ugly Betty (2007). Judith won a daytime Emmy in 1980 and 1981 for One Life to Live.

Leigh Silverman is the director. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Violet (2014) and a Drama Desk Award for From Up Here (2008)

Mrs. Johnson (Judith Light) is an English teacher and guidance counselor in high school. One of her students asks her what is the weight of a lie? She wonders why she asked that question. Mrs. Johnson says she loves teaching. Her husband Earl is a lawyer. They are an interracial couple. The marriage is strain. Both want children but after numerous tests they have no answer as to why they have no children.

One of her students Tom comes to her for guidance. He comes from troubled home and is a second time senior. Tom wants to go to college.

The story goes and forth from present to past.

The basis is she has an affair with him. She raves about the sex. But she does get pregnant. Maybe that was her goal. She drops him but justifies the fact that she helped him get scholarships and grants to go to college. Whatever was not paid she does.

Without telling you the details and spoiling it, just go see it. This is a one person show.

Judith Light captivates you from the begging to the end. She does a remarkable job.

It ends with her repeating what is the weight of a lie, 6lbs 2 ozs.
