Head Over Heels

Head Over Heels is playing at the Hudson Theatre located at 145 West 44th Street. It runs two hours twenty minutes with one intermission. The musical is an open ended run.

The musical premiered on June 15, 2015 at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It then played at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco from April 10, 2018-May 16, 2018.

Michael Mayer is the director. He won a Tony Award in 2007 for Spring Awakening.

Arianne Phillips is the costume designer. She was nominated for a Tony Award in 2014 foe Hedwig and The Angry Inch.

The songs were written by The Go-Go’s. They rose to fame in the early 1980’s. They were the first female band to both write their songs and play their own instruments.

It’s the 1680’s.

Philoclea; the younger daughter (Alexandra Socha) has feelings for Musidorus, a shepherd (Andrew Durand). Her father Basilus; King of Arcadia (Jeremy Kushnier) is against it. She is royalty and he is a commander. Her sister Pamela (Bonnie Milligam) is older. The King is looking for someone for her to marry.

Dametas; The Kings Viceroy, daughter Mopsa (Taylor Iman Jones) serves Pamela.

Gynecia; the kings wife (Rachael York) keeps a watch on her daughters.

A large snake appears bringing a message telling the King the prophecy of Arcadia and its inhabitants. He goes to the cave where Pythio; The Oracle of Delphi (Peppermint) tells him what is going to happen. She tells him Philoclea and Musidorus marry, Pamela marries but it is not fulfilled, Cynecia has an affair and some else is king.

The King tells Dametas they are leaving so the prophecy does not happen. He tells no one about it except Dametas. He keeps an eye on the Kings daughters. But he tells him we must search for the person who wants to take over Arcadia and kill them.

Things happen that was prophesied or have they? I’m not telling, I don’t to spoil it for you. You won’t be disappointed.

“We Got the Beat” is the opening number. The choreography was breathtaking in this number and it doesn’t stop.

The music, choreography, costumes and scenic design ROCK! They were outstanding and so was the cast.

This is a fairy tale, fun musical to see.
