Bulldozer

Bulldozer, The Ballad of Robert Moses is playing at The Theatre at St. Clement’s located at 423 West 46th. It runs one hour forty with no intermission. The musical closes on January 7, 2018.

Robert Moses (born December 18, 1888 and died on July 29, 1981) was an American public official, who worked mainly in New York City. Robert was known as the “Master Builder”. He was NYC Parks Commissioner and chairman of Long Island’s state park commissioner. He was referred by his critics that he preferred automobiles over people. Mr. Moses is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, New York City.

Constantine Maroulis was nominated for a Tony Award for Rock of Ages (2009).

The play starts with The Street Musician (Ryan Knowles) singing a folk song.

There are nineteen scenes, starting at Moses Long Island Beach Cottage (1973). Robert Moses (Constantine Maroulis) is sitting down. He has a look on his face of a man that has been defeated.

Each scene starting in 1921, tells how he came to be the person the public came to know. Nelson Rockefeller (Wayne Wilcox) who was his friend demands his resignation in 1962. His demise came because of his plan to destroy Washington Square Park and further to put in new roads.

Jane Jacobs (Molly Pope) works for Forum Amerika Architectural. She was Canadian-American journalist living in Greenwich Village. Jane organizes people to protest in the park, not to destroy it.

The only women we are told he was involved with were Vera Martin (Kacie Sheik). He was married twice but not to Vera.

I’m not telling you about the man. You will have to learn from the musical.

The cast did a remarkable job. Constantine Maroulis and Molly Pope shined.

The only problem for me was the first quarter of the musical lagged; I tried not to fall asleep. As it went on it became interesting. The characters came to life. From that point on it was a delight to watch.
