This a one person play. Joanne Hartstone is an actor, singer, playwright, director, theatre producer artistic director and teacher.
Peg Entwistle was a Broadway actress that did one movie. She plunged off the H in the Hollywood sign in 1932.
Evie Edwards has climbed on the Hollywood sign. When she was half way up she was going to go down and then decided to go to the top. She is distraught.
We learn about her life up to the present time. Her mother died when she was born in 1925. Evie lived with her dad. When the depression came they lost their home and moved to a Hooverville. They moved to Hollywood when the depression was over. She was eighteen. Her dad got a job in Howard Hughes factory building planes. His one flaw was that he gambles. Evie decides since she loves movies maybe she should be an actress. We learn about Bette Davies, Jean Harlow and Judy Garland. When her father is killed things get hard for her making ends meet.
Joanne plays all the characters with tenderness and warmth. She does and outstanding performance. She sings songs from that time period
If you are a fan of the movies of that time period you will enjoy it even more. You learn things about the stars mentioned you did not know before.
For those of you that have not you still will enjoy the show the play!
