The Trail Of An American President

The Trail Of An American President is playing at the Straight Theatre in Theatre Row located at 410 West 42nd Street. It runs one hour twenty minutes with no intermission. The play closes on October 15, 2016.

The International Criminal Court at The Hague (ICC) was found in 1998 at a meeting where 120 countries voted for the formation. They felt a need bring to trail individuals and governments for heinous crimes which had been committed such as genocide, crimes against humanity, crimes of aggression and war crimes. President Clinton signed the paper work in December 31, 2000. George W. Bush suspended it as not consider itself responsible for any legal obligations under the court’s jurisdiction.

The premise of the play is that George W. Bush is on trial at the present. The setting is the inter.national Criminal Court at the Hague.

He calls himself the president of war

The narrator (Mahira Kakkar) names all the places that terrorist’s acts have occurred in recent years. She said, maybe if the United States had not attack Afghanistan and Iraq these events would not have happened.

The prosecutor (Michael Rogers) presents his case. Information appears on stage wall. People make testimonies on the wall as if they are there. President Bush (Tony Carlin) is questioned about the aggressive crimes and torture that happened while the United States was in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush denies it all.

When the court concludes, the jury (audience) gets to vote if President Bush is guilty.

Each show the verdict is different.

It is an interesting play but heavy and not for everyone.

Some of the audience members were arguing about the show in the lobby.
