Stomp

Playing at the Daryl Roth Theatre located at 101 East 15th Street. It opened on October 24, 2007. Fuerza Bruta means "brute force".

The audience is ushered into the theatre were you stand. There is a red light and pulsating music playing. The music has a nice beat and plays thru the whole show. A mist machine creates mist so that everyone seems to disappear.

This is one show were close to the center is better. If you are short you'll miss everything.

There is no story per say. There's an implication maybe the character came off a space ship? The skits make no sense. A man in a white suit is running on a treadmill and gets shot a couple times. Why???

The next scene he's sleeping and a plastic sheath surrounds him and the audience. Two women are running around on the top. They put spiderman to shame.

It goes like this for 70 minutes. Crew members usher you around from one spot to another. Paper is thrown about. Members of the cast go thru boxes, audience members get hit on the head with stiro foam containers filled with papers. Cast and audience members are wind blown, spray with water or paper.

In another scene the ceiling fills up with water and the women cast members slide around the water in the ceiling. The ceiling is clear, light color changes giving a different feeling each time it changed. The ceiling keeps coming down until it touches the audience.

The show ends were the 3 of the cast members go up a ladder to leave earth or may be just the show? The rest of the cast mingles with the audience while rain comes down and every one starts dancing to the music. Mostly everyone.

It seems like the audience was made up of people not over 30, ok may be 35. If your not that age you were in the minority.

The New York Times review said on October 25, 2007 this is "theater for people who don't like theater."

It was entertaining but not for everyone.
