Broadway Barks 13

Broadway Barks 13 was held in Shubert Alley on July 9, 2011. It was hosted by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore.

In New York City 18,000 homeless animals are euthanized each year. "In 2003, only 26 percent of cats and dogs in the city shelter system made it out alive. Today, that stastic is virtually flipped, with nearly 73 percent of dogs and cats leaving shelter system for loving homes."(Playbill). Broadway barks is an organization founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore twelve years ago. "We decided that we wanted to do something about it and Broadway Barks was born". "Drawing on the considerable resources and generosity of the entire Broadway community, we hope to not only find loving homes for each of the animals" " but also, we hope to plant the seed of awareness of the thousands of animals who are out there that need you"(Playbill).

Twenty One Broadway shows cast members came on stage with a dog that was up for adoption. A little history was given on the dog and who had them for adoption. At one point someone shouted "I'll take that dog".

Bebe Neuwirth represented the "cats".

Twentyseven shelters were represented at various tables in the alley. On 45th street some of the shelters had trucks with cats and dogs for adoption.

Thanks for all for giving these creatures a second chance. These dogs and cats give us something no else can unconditiional love.
