Peter and the Starcatcher

At the Brooks Atkinson Theatre located at 256 West 47th St. It opened on April 15, 2012 and is an opened-run. It runs two hours twenty minutes with one intermission.

The story is based on the 2004 children's book of the same name.

In 2005 Disney hired Jay Wolpert to adapt the book to film.

A play with music debut in the winter of 2009 at the La Jolla Theatre in San Diego, California as part of an arrangement with Disney Theatrical. It opened off Broadway at the New York Theatre on March 8, 2011 and was extended twice. It ran until April 24, 2011. The off Broadway cast returns for the Broadway transfer.

Rick Elice is the playwright. He won a Tony award for Best Musical "Jersey Boys"..

Christian Barle was nominated in 2007 for a Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League Awards for "Legally Blonde".

Celia Keenan-Bolger was nominated for a Tony, Drama Desk and Theatre World Award for "The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee" (2005). She made her Broadway debut in this play. Celia was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for "Les Miserables" (2007).

The story revolves around Molly (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and her dad Lord Aster (Rick Boldger). Lord Aster has two trunks which he puts on different ships. The one he's on is the faster ship and has the trunk with valuable things in it. The other ship The Neverland is older and falling apart. Lord Aster puts his daughter Molly and her nanny Mrs. Bumbrake (Arnie Burton) on it. They have the other trunk which has sand in it. On the ship are three orphans who have been sold into slavery. Boy (Adam Berat) is one of them. The ruthless Captain (Matt D'Aminco) has other unsavory ideas of what to use the boys for.

Meanwhile Lord Aster ship to his surprise is run by pirates. Black Stache (Christian Borle) is the captain. He thinks the trunk has diamonds in it to his surprise there is nothing in it but dust. Black Stache back tracks to find The Neverland for it's trunk.

The second act finds the cast stranded on an island with all sorts of characters. It's here Boy becomes Peter Pan. Molly leaves him and goes with her father to England. All the characters fall in place for the Peter Pan we all have grown to love. Each character from Peter Pan come out and explain who they are.

There are twelve actors playing fifty different characters.

Christian Borle and Celia Keenan-Bolger are extraordinary in there roles. I can see why they were both nominated for a Tony award for their performances. Arnie Burton is so funny, campy and never misses a beat. He's a delight. You can't stop laughing.

There is very little of a set. There is rope hanging like on a ship in the first act. Props are used especially rope for waves, rooms, stairs etc. Act two there are big leaves all around. Small and medium boats are used. You don't need any thing more the action of the actors tells it all. The set design is by Donyale Werlewho. He was nominated for the 2011 Tony Award for "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson".

Especially funny is the opening of act two. All the actors are dressed as mermaids. Costumes were wonderful and were done by Paloma H. Young.

If you want to have good time this is the show to see. The humor is funny and sometime subtle.

There is more to the story then I'm telling you. You know I won't spoil the fun for you. I'm sure you will have a blast.
