Zero Hour

Zero Hour is playing at the Theatre at St. Clements located at 423 West 46th Street. It runs one hour thirty minutes with no intermission. The play runs until July 9, 2017.

Zero Mostel was born February 28, 1915 and died on September 8, 1977. He won two Tony Awards for a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1963) and Rhinoceros (1961) and was nominated for a Tony Award for Ulysses in the Nighttown (1974). Zero was known for his role in Fiddler on the Roof.

Jim Brochu first performed the role in 2010. He won a Drama Desk Award for this role.

Piper Laurie is the director. She was nominated for three Academy Awards for The Hustler (1961), Carrie (1976) and Children of a Lesser God (1986).

Zero Mostel (Jim Brochu) is in his art studio on 28th Street. There are paintings everywhere (well at least frames).

He has a visitor from the New York Times to interview him. The writer is asked to take off his clothe so Zero can paint him while he is being interviewed.

The audience learns a lot about the man and actor. His second wife was a Christian and his family disowned him because of that. Zero was not a member of the Communist party but was blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

These are some of the things we learn about him.

Jim Brochu does a remarkable job as Zero Mostel that will take your breath away. His facial and body movements add to the characterization of Zero that keeps you memorized.
