Drunk Shakespeare
Drunk Shakespeare is playing at The Lounge located at 200 West 43rd Street, second floor. It runs one hour thirty minutes with no intermission. It opened on April 15, 2014 and is open ended.
The audience is given a shot of whiskey with soda in it as they come in. Seating is on the stage and the level above. There are over 15,000 books on either side of the stage and the upper level. All the books are put on the shelves by color. On one end of the stage is a bar where the audience can buy drinks. At the other are two large throne seats.
The host (Mike Sause) tells the audience as part of The Drunk Shakespeare Society you can bid to sit on the throne. We won’t open with $500. The winner paid $50 for the honor. They got champagne and other privileges. The Queen gets to ring a bell if the drunken actor “MacDuff” (Aubrey Taylor) is to die if yes she has to have another shot of whiskey. But before that MacDuff drinks four shots of whiskey and someone in the audience has a shot with her.
Macbeth is performed both traditional and not. Modern language is used. Current events are play, for example Trump. Oh yes there is a puppet too! Macbeth (Tim Haber) drinks a glass of milk with beer. In all MacDuff drinks 6 shots of whiskey and one glass of beer from the audience bottles and a shot of whiskey.
The cast inter acts with the audience, adding to the humor.
Lady Macbeth (CatlinMorris) and Banquo (and others Alison Wien) curse a lot.
Aside from the fact that this production is not you’re every day, Macbeth, who cares. The show is hilarious and the cast does a great job. At each show someone different gets drunk.
How Aubrey could still stand after all she drank is amazing.
Yes it gets raunchy and the f---k world is used. Don’t let it stop you from seeing this cleaver show.
