The Chekhov Dreams
The Chekhov Dreams is playing at the Beckett Theatre located at 410 West 42nd Street. It runs two hours with one intermission. The play closes on February 17, 2018.
Jeremy (Dana Watkins) and Kate (Elizabeth Inghram) are on a rug playing a mind game. One will say a quote from a book and the other has to tell the book and author. They have been a couple for ten years and made a blood pack that if they die they will meet up again and be a couple again.
You get a feeling they have broken up or she is dead.
Eddie (Christian Ryan) goes to his brother Jeremy house on New Year’s Eve. He has brought booze and drugs which he takes while he is there. Eddie chides his brother for being a recluse. Jeremy rebuttal is he is writing a book. Eddie in returns tell him he has to get out at least once a week, like do volunteer work or go to acting school. Jeremey agrees if Eddies quits the drugs. So a deal is struck. Jeremy goes to acting school where he meets Chrissy (Charlotte). She has a boyfriend. They team up and rehearse a scene from the Seagull by Chekhov at school and Jeremy house. The scene is to be done in front of their teacher.
We keep seeing Kate but we realize Jeremy is seeing her in his dreams. He believes she is telling him it is time they meet again as promised.
Jeremy book is almost finished. One night he has a dream he meets Chekhov (Rik Walter). Chekhov tells him how he should finish his book. He also gives him advice on how to perform the scene he is rehearing from his play Seagull.
There is more we learn about the characters but why spoil it for you.
This is a delightful, entertaining play worth seeing.
