The Violin
The Violin is playing at 59E59 Theaters located at 59 East 59th Street. It runs two hours with one intermission. The play closes on October 14, 2017.
Robert LuPone was nominated for a Tony Award for A Chorus Line in 1976.
The play takes place in Glovanni’s tailor shop on a cold day in February. It is located on Ave A in the East Village.
Gio (Robert LuPone) is the tailor. He is talking to Bobby (Peter Bradbury). Bobby seems to be a loser the way he talks and acts. He pulled a favor to get his brother Terry (Kevin Isola) to drive a gypsy cab. Terry decides that he doesn’t want to do it anymore. So he parks the cab. But not before he takes the violin that was left in the back seat of the cab. Terry leaves the violin at the tailor shop. When Bobby finds out the violin is worth four million dollars he perks up! He comes up with a scheme with Gio about getting a finder’s fee.
During the play we learn more about Bobby and Terry. Terry is a special needs person. Their parents die when they are young. Gio inherited the shop from his father which was originally on Mulberry Street.
There is more you learn but I’m not telling what happened. All I will tell you is that this well written play by Dan McCormick. It keeps you interested all the way thru the play and makes you think about the characters.
The cast is outstanding. Kevin Isola does a remarkable jog as the young man not all there mentally.
I am glad I got to see this play. It is worth seeing. You won’t be disappointed.
