Anything Can Happen In The Theater
Anything Can Happen in the Theater, The Musical World of Maury Yeston is playing at the York Theatre located at 619 Lexington Avenue. It runs seventy minutes with no intermission. The musical closes on December 29, 2019.
Maury Yeston is the composer. He won a Tony Award for Titanic (1987) and Nine (1982) and was nominated for a Tony Award for Grand Hotel (1990).
Gerald Alessandrini is the director. He is the recipient of the Tony Honors for excellence in Theatre. He is known for creating revue Hidden Broadway.
Benjamin Eakeley, Jova E’Sean, Alex Getlin and Mamie Parris performs songs written by Maury Yeston. The shows are Nine, Grand Hotel, In the Beginning, Titanic, Death Takes a Holiday, December Song, The Queen of Basin Street and Phantom.
There is no plot connecting the songs. The songs tell the story. For each song there is a costume change. The song is highlighted by the actor’s facial expressions and movements. This a delightful show to see. Justine Keyes was sick when I saw it. Instead of canceling the show they left out three songs. Mauray Yeston came on stage first. He told about different songs he wrote.
The first and last song the whole cast performed.
The cast did a remarkable performance. Benjamin Eakeley voice blew me away.
