Midnight at The Never Get

Midnight at the Never Get is playing at the York Theatre located at 619 Lexington Avenue. It runs ninety minutes with no intermission. The musical closes November 2, 2018.

The setting is in the mid-late 1960’s in Greenwich Village, New York City.

Treavor (Sam Bolen0 is sitting on a piano. The pianist (Jeremy Cohen) is playing a love song he wrote.

Treavor proceeds to tell and sing songs on how they met, become lovers and their life. The pianist wrote the songs.

They play at the club “The Never Let”. Since gays were not allowed hang out in the same place. It appears to be a straight club.

The pianist will not change the lyric so that it about a straight couple. He said I’m gay and not ashamed of it. But because of that he’s not getting anywhere with his songs. Treavor tries to convince him otherwise but to no avail. Piano man changes his mind when he goes to California and gets to do things with his music. Every time he goes to California he won’t take Treavor. He breaks up with him. At that point he won’t admit he’s gay.

Every once in a while Trevor will say your dead or as the lights dim not now. As we get near the end of the show things have more meaning. At that time we are introduced to the older Trevor (John J. Peterson).

Since there are only two characters, Trevor is the doing most of the talking and singing. The story is slow in the beginning. It has more impact and holds your attention, in the last part of the show.
